Dub is an excellent link shortener with real analytics. It is not a deep-link tool — a Dub link still opens in the in-app browser.
Dub is a modern, open-source link management platform with analytics, custom domains, and a clean API. If you are choosing a shortener, it is a strong option. What it does not do — and does not claim to do — is change where a link opens. Tapped inside Instagram or TikTok, a Dub link lands in that app's in-app browser like any other URL.
Switch if
- Your links are shared inside social apps and you are losing people to in-app browsers.
- The destination is an app — YouTube, Spotify, Instagram, Amazon — and you want it to open there.
- You do not need the analytics, the API, or the custom domain.

These are complementary, not competing
Dub manages and measures links. This changes where a link opens. Using a short link for your campaign reporting and an app-opening link in your Instagram bio is a perfectly coherent setup, and neither tool interferes with the other.
Why no shortener opens apps by default
A shortener issues an HTTP redirect to the destination. The browser follows it and stays exactly where it was — inside the in-app web view. Opening an app requires a different mechanism entirely: handing the URL to the operating system through an Android intent, or on iOS a custom scheme or an escape into real Safari.
What you give up here
Everything Dub is good at: analytics, custom domains, an API, workspaces, and the ability to self-host. This is a single-purpose tool and that is the whole trade.
