Bitly Alternative
A Bitly short link is still a web link — tapped inside Instagram it opens Instagram's browser. This makes it open the app instead.
Bitly is a link shortener with click analytics and branded domains, and it is good at that. What it does not do is change where the link opens. A bit.ly URL tapped inside Instagram, Telegram, or TikTok lands in that app's in-app browser exactly like the raw URL would, with the user logged out and half the page broken. That is the specific problem this tool solves.
Switch if
- Your links get shared inside social apps and you are losing people to in-app browsers.
- You are on Bitly's free tier and keep hitting the limits on links or custom back-halves.
- You do not read the click analytics, or you already get the same numbers from your own site.
- You want links that open YouTube, Instagram, Amazon, or Spotify in the app rather than a web view.
Stay with Bitly if
- Click analytics matter to you. This tool records nothing and shows you nothing — there is no dashboard at all.
- You need a branded custom domain on your short links for trust or brand reasons.
- You need to edit a link's destination after publishing it. Bitly can retarget a live link; this cannot.
- You need QR analytics, team accounts, or an API.

Moving off Bitly
- 1Find the Bitly links you share inside social apps — bios, stories, DMs, Telegram channels. Those are the ones losing people to in-app browsers.
- 2Paste each destination URL into the generator above and use the link it produces in those placements.
- 3Keep Bitly anywhere the click numbers get reported, or where a branded domain is doing work for you.
- 4Test one link from inside the Instagram app on both an Android phone and an iPhone before swapping the rest.
Shortening and app-opening are different jobs
A shortener rewrites a long URL as a shorter one and counts the taps. It does not change what the destination opens in. If your problem is that the link is ugly, a shortener fixes it. If your problem is that people land logged-out in Instagram's web view, a shortener changes nothing at all.
What in-app browsers actually cost you
Inside Instagram's or Facebook's web view the user is not signed in to the destination, autoplay is unreliable, and checkout flows behave oddly. Every one of those is a drop-off between your link and the thing you wanted them to do. A link that opens the native app skips the whole category of problem.
Using both is a reasonable answer
These are not mutually exclusive. Plenty of people keep Bitly for the campaigns they measure and use an app-opening link for the placements inside social apps, where the analytics were never the point.
